Gunungkidul – The Indonesian Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto visited the installation of clean water pipes in Kalurahan Banyusoco, Playen, Gunungkidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), on Monday (3/6).
The Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) and the Defense University (Unhan) of Indonesia provided this assistance to help communities facing a clean water crisis in the region. Gunungkidul has been experiencing drought and water access difficulties, particularly during the dry season.
The local community will use this assistance for agricultural purposes, with the clean water pipe aid program expected to increase harvest frequency for Gunungkidul residents. The water flow from the pipes can reach 15 liters per second, enough to supply all 82 tanks in the area.
Rector of Unhan RI, Jonni Mahroza, highlighted that the clean water source points in the Cave can irrigate approximately 7,400 hectares of agricultural land. This initiative is expected to improve agricultural productivity in the region significantly.
Minister Prabowo previously inaugurated 11 clean water source points in Gunungkidul and Bantul, Central Java, in August 2023. The Unhan RI Water Task Force has identified and constructed clean water installations in over 130 locations nationwide throughout 2023, benefiting regions such as West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Yogyakarta, West Java, Southwest Maluku, and Banten.
The inauguration event was attended by various TNI and Unhan officials, underscoring the collaborative effort to address clean water access issues and support agricultural development in Indonesia.
