Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect for 2024-2029, had a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, September 7. The two leaders, who have a longstanding friendship, discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Prior to this meeting, Prabowo had also met with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. During their discussions, Prabowo and Anwar both expressed their commitment to strengthening the existing bilateral cooperation between their two neighboring countries.
Prabowo stated, “Thank you for today’s productive discussion. I reaffirm Indonesia’s dedication to building a harmonious and mutually beneficial bilateral defense relationship with Malaysia.”
At the meeting, Prabowo personally invited Anwar to attend his presidential inauguration, which is scheduled for October in Jakarta. Anwar expressed his joy at reuniting with his longtime friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as Indonesia’s next president.
In a caption on his official Instagram account, @anwaribrahim_my, Anwar wrote, “Meeting my close friend, Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto. I am honored to accept his invitation to the Indonesian presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024, in Jakarta.”
Anwar also emphasized his commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. “The most important thing is our commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between our brotherly nations. We also reaffirm our dedication to reinforcing regional cooperation within ASEAN,” Anwar said.
