Jakarta – The Indonesian Paralympians are gearing up to showcase their hard work and determination at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, scheduled to kick off on August 28, 2024. As preparations are underway, one key aspect being finalized is the design of the costumes that will be worn by the Indonesian contingent. While Didit Hediprasetyo designed the costumes for the 2024 Paris Olympics, this time, the design responsibility has been handed over to Didiet Maulana through his brand, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana. The costumes are deeply rooted in the spirit of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity), a concept that serves as the strong foundation for these designs.
In collaboration with Mills, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), and the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPC), Didiet Maulana has presented a collection that includes jackets, jerseys, and track pants. The design not only focuses on aesthetics but also on embodying the values of unity and diversity, which are core to the Indonesian nation. Didiet Maulana explained in a press release that the concept of “Sandya Niskala” is inspired by Indonesia’s diverse cultures and the unshakable values of unity encapsulated in Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
The “Sandya Niskala” design series incorporates elements of traditional ikat weaving and features geometric patterns inspired by Indonesia’s identity as an archipelagic nation. The motifs in the design symbolize the struggle and optimism of the athletes in competition. The designs also draw inspiration from the Garuda Pancasila, the national emblem of Indonesia, with the feather motif representing strength, unity, and solidarity.
The color scheme of the costumes includes red for courage, white for purity, gold for grandeur and glory, and touches of gray for responsibility. Didiet hopes that these colors will bring an energetic vibe, a sense of renewal, and good hopes for the Indonesian athletes competing in the Paralympics.
To celebrate the launch of this collection, Didiet Maulana held a photo session with Indonesian Paralympians who will be competing in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. The athletes were photographed as a part of the theme “Embrace and Celebrating Our Athlete,” aimed at highlighting their dedication and spirit as they represent Indonesia on the international stage.
The costumes for the Indonesian contingent at the 2024 Paris Olympics were designed by Didit Hediprasetyo, drawing inspiration from the national song “Berkibarlah Benderaku.” The jerseys featured the red and white colors of the Indonesian flag, complemented by the Garuda Pancasila emblem, reflecting national pride and unity.
Both Didiet Maulana and Didit Hediprasetyo have played a significant role in designing costumes rich in meaning and symbolism, carrying messages of pride and unity for Indonesia at international sporting events.
