Prabowo’s Crackdown on Companies Cheating Rice Distribution

President Prabowo Subianto recently spoke out against corrupt practices in Indonesia’s rice trade during the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB). He expressed his determination to crack down on companies that repackage and overprice subsidized rice, revealing that these schemes cost the country up to Rp100 trillion annually. Prabowo highlighted the subsidization of various aspects of rice production, only for the rice to be relabeled as ‘premium’ and sold at inflated prices. He identified 212 rice milling companies guilty of such practices and called for them to return their ill-gotten profits. Prabowo condemned this behavior as criminal, emphasizing the significant loss of funds that could have been used to improve public services. He has instructed the National Police Chief and the Attorney General to investigate and prosecute those involved in the scam, citing the constitutional obligation to oversee vital sectors like rice production. The President’s actions are firmly rooted in upholding the constitution and combating corruption that harms the people and the nation.
