The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has decided to temporarily halt the operations of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) after finding subpar food in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the BGN, stated that the affected SPPG units will remain closed until the investigation is completed and all MBG food samples are thoroughly tested. BGN is collaborating with independent institutions, local health and education departments to determine the cause of the incident and closely observe the health of affected students.
Apologies were extended to students, parents, schools, and all impacted parties by the National Nutrition Agency. BGN emphasized its zero tolerance for negligence in procuring and distributing MBG meals that could endanger the beneficiaries’ health. The agency is working closely with local government authorities to ensure a swift and effective response on the ground.
Redy highlighted ongoing corrective measures such as stricter partner screening, regular assessment of food providers, improved hygiene standards, enhanced food quality monitoring in the supply chain, and the establishment of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on expert recommendations. BGN is committed to ensuring that the MBG Program adheres to all food safety standards and fulfills its purpose without jeopardizing health. With the collaboration of stakeholders, the program will continue to effectively serve the people.
