Prabowo Halts SOE Commissioner Bonuses: What It Means for People

President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his dedication to restructuring Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) by discontinuing the practice of giving bonuses, also known as tantiem, to SOE commissioners. Speaking at the Apkasi Otonomi Expo 2025 at ICE BSD in Tangerang, Prabowo highlighted the mismanagement and dispersion of SOE assets over the years. Through the consolidation of these assets under Danantara, Indonesia has emerged as a major player in global finance, ranking fifth in sovereign funds worldwide, following Norway, China, and Abu Dhabi. Despite this success, Prabowo criticized the tradition of granting bonuses to SOE commissioners, especially during periods of company losses, deeming it unjust. He emphasized the significance of eliminating these bonuses as part of a comprehensive reform initiative aimed at fostering integrity and professionalism within state-owned enterprises. Prabowo made it clear that opposition to these reforms will not be tolerated, as there are numerous young individuals eager to uphold these responsibilities.
